Known as the “Galápagos of the Antarctic,” this remote island chain boasts massive wildlife concentrations: king penguin colonies (tens of thousands strong), elephant seals, fur seals, and albatrosses. Grytviken, an old whaling station, also houses the grave of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.
